What’s on in September 2017

“Time and Place” – an exhibition of photographs by local photographer Brenda Hempton can be seen from the 29th Aug. to 21st Sept.   Since her last exhibition at the Arts Centre, Brenda has travelled in Asia & Europe and her latest collection is drawn from a variety of locations, some local and some more exotic, some quirky or with an eye for the abstract; others demonstrate the effect of using a long exposure  to simplify a composition.

The next meeting of Garstang Floral Art Group will be in the Arts Centre on Tuesday 19th September at 2-00pm. Our speaker will be Margaret Boyle of Fusion Flowers, Preston. We are pleased that Margaret is paying us a return visit, as she delighted members last year with her imaginative arrangements at her first ever Floral Demonstration. The arrangements will be raffled and light refreshments will be served after the demonstration. For more information please contact Mary Thornber on 01995 605210 or June Gornall on 01995 602505.

I’m sure the Garstang Ukulele Group will start September by sharing memories of GarFest, though it could be like they say about the 60’s, if you can remember it you weren’t really there 😀

Hopefully the beginners workshop at GarFest will have brought us some new players and if anyone is interested in joining us we meet every Sunday from 2-4 at the Arts Centre. Ring Bob Sapey on 01995 604621 for more information.

We’ve got several gigs coming up in September so if you’d like to hear us this is where we will be.

Friday Sept 22nd from 2pm – 4pm . This months topic led by Harry Batty is Betjeman or Bukowski ? Betjeman is a well known Poet Laureate , urbane , witty , well connected and a champion of Victorian architecture . Charles Bukowski is a relatively unknown American writer , poet and alcoholic . In his lifetime he produced a large collection of poems and writing . Sometimes lyrical , sometimes subversive, representing the underbelly of one the richest countries in the world .

What a contrast ! The meeting should be very interesting ! Come along and enjoy the meeting . Join in or sit and just listen .  Marie Whalley 01995 603605

Visit our stall outside the Market Hall and have a good root through all our stuff . china , jewellery, glassware, toys , jigsaws etc . Maybe the odd Chinese vase or Victorian what not . You never know . There’s something for everyone. It’s too good to miss !

We meet in the Arts Centre on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. If you enjoy knitting, crochet, embroidery, patchwork, applique or would like to learn, do come and join this friendly, helpful group.  Contact: Ann Kelsall on (01995) 606408 or just turn up!

Continuing as a ladies group we are making some changes from September. On the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month there will be piano accompaniment, but on the 2nd and 4th Mondays we will sing along to CDs/computer. We will still close on bank holidays. Dates will be on The Arts Centre noticeboard.

Songbirds is a very friendly group – we do not give performances, just enjoy singing a wide repertoire and welcome those who have never sung in a group before, as well as those who sing well but do not want the commitment of a ‘proper’ choir!
