“The August Exhibition will feature the five prize winners of the Open Art Competition which was held in January.

Sandra Langhorne, who took the 1st prize with her painting ‘I’m Thinking’, is now developing her style by portraying local scenes; Patricia Roberts loves watercolour but also experiments with other media; Val Jones feels fortunate to practice art when exciting fun products and techniques are available.

Mary Queen and Adrian Whitaker will also exhibit their latest work.

The exhibition runs from Tues. 31st July to Thurs. 23rd August.   Sheila Tearle  01995 603816”

Garstang Ukulele Group

August is a relatively quiet month for the group, though we will have 2 outside performances. On the 4th we’ve secured a spot on the open mic stage at Parbulele, Lancashire’s largest ukulele festival and then at the end of the month on the 26th, we’ll be supporting the West Houghton George Formby band in Stanley Park in Blackpool.

As usual we’ll be strumming (8-10 pm) in the bars at the Tithe Barn on the 9th and at the Crown on the 26th. Other players and singers are welcome to join us – we always play from our songbooks which are on our website.

The next meeting of the Garstang Floral Art Group will be held in the Arts Centre on Tuesday 21st August at 2-00pm. Our speaker will be Joan Hardwick from Southport. Joan, who is a member of NAFAS, has visited the group many times and is always entertaining whilst creating some wonderful floral arrangements. The arrangements will be raffled at the end of the demonstration.  This will be an open meeting as part of The Garstang Arts Festival. Cost £5 including refreshments, payable on the door.

New members are always welcome at this friendly group. Don’t worry if you are a complete beginner as there is always help and advice from more experienced players. For more information contact Bob Burns on 01995 603524.

FRIDAY AUGUST 24TH 2pm-4pm     This  month’s meeting is part of the Arts Festival  and is entitled Favourite poems. These poems are favourites of the members and those of our former Patron James Dodding,  who instigated the poetry group and sadly passed away this year. We should have a very interesting and enjoyable meeting. Come along you can just sit and listen and join in if you wish. Visitors are always very welcome. The meeting ends with tea and cakes!
